SARTS
SART stands for Search And Rescue Transponder. It is an electronic aid for locating survival craft or vessels in distress. It causes a series of dots to appear on the screen of any X-band radar, indicating the range and bearing of the casualty. Thus any radar equipped vessel can help in a search and rescue operation, without the need for specialized Direction Finding (DF) equipment.
SARTs are carried by all SOLAS vessels and are also required under offshore racing rules.
